Climbable Privacy Policy

Climbable ("Climbable," "we," "our," or "us") provides a climbing-weather forecasting app for Australian rock climbers. This policy explains what information the Climbable app collects, how it's used, and what it doesn't do.

The short version

Climbable doesn't require an account, doesn't track you, and doesn't know who you are. Your favourites, alert settings, and appearance preferences stay on your device. The only information that leaves your device is anonymous forecast requests and, if you choose to use the check-in feature, an anonymous log of conditions at a crag.

Information we do not collect

• No account or sign-in. Climbable has no login, no user profile, and no way to identify you personally.
• No location tracking. Climbable does not access your device's GPS or location services. You select crags and regions manually from a list.
• No advertising tracking. Climbable does not use your device's advertising identifier and does not track you across other apps or websites for advertising purposes.
• No payment or card details. All subscription purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. Climbable never sees or stores your payment information — Apple only tells us whether you have an active subscription.

Information stored on your device

The following is stored locally on your device only, using standard iOS storage, and is never transmitted to us:

• Your favourite crags
• Alert thresholds and notification preferences
• Appearance and display settings
• Your subscription status (as confirmed by Apple's StoreKit)

If you delete the app, this information is deleted with it. We have no copy of it and cannot recover it.

Information sent to our servers

Climbable talks to our forecast service to retrieve weather and climbing-condition data. These requests:

• Include only the region and date range you're viewing (e.g. "VIC, this weekend") — no personal identifiers are attached.
• Are used solely to return the relevant forecast data back to your device.

Optional: "I climbed here" check-ins

If you choose to use the check-in feature, Climbable sends the crag (or sub-crag), the day's forecast score, and the rock/temperature conditions you select. This is used to help keep crag condition data current for the climbing community. Check-ins are anonymous — they are not linked to your identity, device, or account, because Climbable has no concept of user accounts to link them to.

Notifications

If you enable alerts for a favourite crag, Climbable schedules them directly on your device. These are not sent from a remote server and do not require registering your device with a push notification service — the app checks conditions and schedules the notification locally.

Third parties

• Apple processes all subscription payments and provides Climbable with subscription status only, governed by Apple's own privacy policy.
• Weather data providers supply the underlying raw weather data that Climbable's scoring is built on; we do not share any personal information with them because we don't collect any to share.

We do not sell, rent, or share any data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

Children's privacy

Climbable is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Data retention

Because Climbable stores your preferences locally and does not maintain user accounts, we do not retain personally identifiable information on our servers. Anonymous check-in and forecast-request data may be retained in aggregate to improve forecast accuracy and crag data quality.

Your rights

Since Climbable doesn't collect personal information tied to an identifiable individual, there is no personal data for us to provide, correct, or delete on request. If you have questions about this policy or how Climbable handles data, contact us at [email protected].
